Focus on Careers
Focus on Careers is an interactive resource to help young people in secondary schools and colleges find their way through the maze of career choices. All the information is here. It gives the local low-down on each career sector, explains the full range of qualifications, has direct links to all local colleges and universities offering these qualifications and has valuable links to other websites – and much more besides. Focus on Careers covers the same key employment sectors as the new Diplomas. And used with the Local Area Prospectus – an online listing of local courses – it offers a new way to explore learning and career opportunities.

LITERACY
National Literacy Trust
The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity that changes lives through literacy. We have a vision of a society in which everyone has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that they need to fulfil their own and, ultimately, the nation’s potential. The National Literacy Trust links home, school and the wider community to inspire learners and create opportunities for everyone. We support those who work with learners through our innovative programmes, information and research. We bring together key organisations to lead literacy promotion in the UK.
National Year of Reading
On 8 January the National Year of Reading was launched at 10 Downing Street. At the event, the Prime Minister said that the drive could prove to be one of the Government's most effective social policies. Mr Brown said of the benefits of reading: "It's probably one of the best anti-poverty, anti-deprivation, anti-crime, anti-vandalism policies you can think of. Let's set a big ambition for this year that we do have millions more people aware of the importance of reading, and thousands more people who can't read, reading."
