The Young Speakers Project aims to help young people become more confident speakers and develop their communication skills.
Public Speaking Competition
Swindon Ten Learning Network has partnered up with Thamesdown Speakers, the local branch of the international Toastmasters Club, to organize a Public Speaking Competition for students. Building up from in-class and in-school competitions, students are then invited to participate in the Swindon-wide finals.
Members of Thamesdown Speakers are also working with schools in other ways to support students in gaining confidence and skills as public speakers.
Debating Competition
Following an argument module taught in English, students are then prepared to take part in debating competitions featuring a chair, teams of 2 proposers and 2 opponents of a motion, a house and a panel. Winners go on to an in-school, then an inter-school competition.
